How much caffeine is in kombucha?
The primary ingredient in kombucha is tea, so the place to start is: how much caffeine is in tea? This depends, of course, on the tea. Depending on the type of tea, the length of the steep, and the temperature of the brew, an 8 oz serving of hot tea likely contains between 28 mg and 47 mg of caffeine. This is less than half as much as coffee (according to the Mayo Clinic). However, the process of brewing kombucha actually removes much of the caffeine, resulting in a beverage that has about 1/3 the amount of caffeine of the original tea.
We know that some people are more sensitive to caffeine (and we also happen to know some kids that like to have a glass of kombucha now and then), and Fall City Kombucha has a great option! Rooibos tea is a non-caffeinated herbal tea that originated in South Africa, and since it starts out with no caffeine from the beginning, our Red Diamond Rooibos kombucha is also caffeine-free.
